Julianna Robertson

Housing Policy Analyst

Julianna Robertson joined the Atlantic Policy Congress as the new Housing Policy Analyst in March 2022. Her experience and interest in housing started in her undergraduate degree where she worked on housing and childhood injury prevention during her internship with Child Safety Link. Her experience and interest in housing was further cemented during her post-graduate degree where she completed a report called Affordable Housing Initiative for Single Mothers which won an award of merit from the CMHC. The report looked at utilizing social impact bonds to renovate existing houses into multi-family units in downtown Halifax.

Her experience and interest in working with First Nations communities began with her work as a Policy Analyst for the Maw-Kleyu’kik Knijannaq Initiative whose purpose is to write and enact a Mi’kmaw child welfare regime. During her two years working for the Mi’kmaq of Nova Scotia she learned a lot and was grateful for the experience. However, it highlighted the deep divide in regard to housing in First Nations communities, which sparked her desire to return to working on housing because she believes housing is a basic human right and no one should ever be without a home.

In 2017, she graduated from Mount Saint Vincent University with a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction. Her major during this degree was Public Policy Studies with a concentration on Canadian public policy and her minor was in history. In 2019, she graduated from Dalhousie University with a Master of Public Administration. During this degree she worked as an intern with the Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Department in the Early Years Branch.

Julianna is passionate about how progressive social policies work with fiscal policy and is excited to examine how this applies to housing in Atlantic First Nations. She is passionate about diversity, equity and inclusion believing that it is our differences that make us stronger. In her spare time she can be found reading a good book, watching Netflix or spending time with family.
